A Handyman Service Backed by a Licensed Contractor

When the small jobs pile up faster than you can get to them, a reliable handyman is worth more than a big remodeling crew, and that is exactly what Handyman Can by Powerbuilt Construction is built for. We handle the punch list most contractors will not bother with: the sticking door, the trim that pulled away, the drywall ding from moving furniture, the light fixture that needs swapping, the grab bar that has to hold real weight. Bob Powers has been on the tools since 1985 and has held a Minnesota general contractor license since 1995 (License #BC533891), so the same operation that builds additions also shows up for the two-hour fix, and you get a licensed hand on the jobs an unlicensed handyman legally cannot touch. Call Bob directly at (763) 331-2247 and we will sort your list into what we can knock out in one visit and what needs a scheduled return.

Handyman work covers a wide range, so we break it into categories to make it easy to hand us your list. A lot of North Metro homes are 1970s and 1980s split-levels and two-story colonials where the fixes tend to repeat: doors that bind after a humid summer, settling cracks in the drywall over doorways, decks and railings that need a board or a fastener before they turn into a safety issue. We keep the truck stocked for the common repairs, and because Powerbuilt is a licensed general contractor across Anoka County and the North Metro Twin Cities, anything that turns out to be bigger than a handyman job, a structural crack, a load-bearing change, a permitted remodel, we can carry ourselves instead of handing you off. Every home is different, contact Powerbuilt Construction for an accurate estimate.

Broken Down By Category

Handyman Services, Category by Category

Six areas of the house, each with its own scope. Send us one item or the whole punch list.

01

Repairs

The everyday fixes that keep a house working: sticking or misaligned doors, cabinet hinges and drawer slides, running toilets and dripping faucets, loose railings, failed caulk lines, and the small water or settling damage that only gets worse if it waits. We track down the cause, not just the symptom, so the repair actually holds.

02

Carpentry and Trim

Baseboard, casing, crown, and shoe that pulled away or never got finished right. Interior and exterior door hanging and adjustment, closet build-outs and shelving, stair treads and handrails, and rot repair on trim and fascia before it works its way into the framing.

03

Drywall

Nail pops, the seasonal cracks that open over doorways, the hole behind a doorknob, and water-stained board after a leak is fixed. We patch, tape, and match the existing texture, then prime so a painter, or you, can finish it clean.

04

Fixture Installs

Light fixtures, ceiling fans, vanities and faucets, toilets, towel bars, mirrors, and TV mounts set into real blocking. We coordinate the plumbing and electrical so what we hang is anchored and safe, not toggled into hollow drywall waiting to pull out.

05

Safety Items

The list that protects the people in the house: grab bars set into blocking that carries real weight, sturdy handrails, smoke and CO detector placement, exterior lighting on dark stairs, non-slip treads, and childproofing hardware. A lot of this overlaps with our ADA accessibility upgrades.

06

Maintenance and Punch Lists

The one-visit list. Seasonal caulking and weatherstripping before a Minnesota winter, gutter and downspout fixes, hardware swaps, and the pre-sale or post-move punch list a realtor handed you. Give us the whole sheet and we schedule it into one trip wherever the work allows.

How It Works

From Your List to Done

Handyman work should be easy to hand off. Here is how we run it.

  1. 01

    Send Us the List

Text or email your list to Bob at (763) 331-2247, and photos help. We tell you upfront what we can knock out in a single visit and what needs parts ordered or a return trip, so nothing is a surprise when we show up.

  2. 02

    One Trip Where We Can

We keep the truck stocked for the common repairs, so most lists get handled in one visit. Bob or the same small crew does the work, not a rotating cast of subs, and we clean up before we leave.

  3. 03

    Licensed Backup if It Grows

Sometimes a small job opens up a bigger one: rot behind the trim, a crack that turns out to be structural, a fixture that needs a permitted circuit. Because Powerbuilt is a licensed GC, we can scope and carry that work too instead of leaving you to find someone else.

Why Call a Licensed Contractor for Small Jobs

The reason to have one number for the whole house.

  1. 01

    One Call, Big or Small

Most handymen tap out when a job needs a permit or a license, and most general contractors will not send a crew for a two-hour fix. Powerbuilt does both, so you are not keeping two numbers in your phone for the same house.

  2. 02

Licensed on the Jobs That Need It

Grab bars, structural patches, anything touching a load path or a permitted trade is legal for us to do and inspected when it should be. An unlicensed handyman cannot pull a permit, which is how bad work stays hidden until you go to sell.

  3. 03

    The Owner Runs It

Bob has been on the tools since 1985. The person who takes your list is the person who does or oversees the work, so nothing gets lost in a hand-off between an office and a crew.

  4. 04

    Work That Holds

We fix the cause, not just the symptom, and we finish so the repair blends in. A patch you can still see, or a door that binds again in a month, is not done in our book.

Why Homeowners Call Powerbuilt First

Bob Powers runs the operation directly. You are not working through a sales team or a dispatcher who has never seen your house. The person who reads your list is the person who does or oversees the work. Powerbuilt holds MN General Contractor License #BC533891, carries a 4.9-star rating across 27 Google reviews, and works throughout Anoka County and the North Metro Twin Cities. When a small job turns into a real project, we already handle home renovations, bathroom remodeling, and kitchen remodeling, so the same crew carries it through.

Common Questions About Handyman Services

What kinds of jobs are too small for Powerbuilt?
Almost none. If it is a real repair, a fixture install, a trim fix, or a punch list, we will take it. The jobs we turn down are the ones that are not construction at all, like appliance repair or landscaping. If your list is short, we will tell you honestly whether it is worth a trip on its own or better bundled with a few other items.
Are you really a handyman, or a contractor pretending to be one?
Both, on purpose. Handyman Can is the small-jobs side of Powerbuilt Construction, a licensed Minnesota general contractor (License #BC533891). That means you get someone who will happily hang a towel bar, and who is also legally cleared to fix the structural crack or the permitted circuit behind it. Most handymen cannot do the second half of that.
Do you charge by the hour or by the job?
It depends on the work. Short, predictable repairs are usually quoted by the job, so you know the number before we start. Longer or open-ended lists are handled by the visit. We tell you which one applies when you send the list, and we do not start work you have not approved.
Can you handle grab bars and safety items for an aging parent?
Yes, and it is work we take seriously. Grab bars and handrails only do their job if they are set into real blocking that carries weight, not toggled into drywall. This overlaps with our accessibility work, so if the list is growing, ask about ADA accessibility upgrades and we will look at the whole picture.
How fast can you get out for a small repair?
Send Bob the list and we will give you a real window rather than a vague someday. Small repairs across the North Metro usually schedule quickly, and we group nearby jobs to keep it efficient. Anything urgent, like a safety or water issue, we move to the front of the line.
